The Oakwood Room is a beautiful vintage venue, settled into the hills of the Coosa Valley. The building, built in 1890, now known as the Houseal Building, was first owned by W. T. Gibson who ran a retail store. It switched hands many times but was always used to supply clothing, dry goods, furniture or farm equipment to the citizens of Cedartown and the surrounding area. Many people today remember coming to the building and seeing the first television set in the area, or newlyweds purchasing their first pieces of furniture for their home. The building began as a retail store and remained so until 2003.
Having fallen into disrepair, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Worthington, bought the building and started a massive renovation. From new foundation pillars, to windows, electrical to roofing, the building was brought back to its original splendor. Keeping the original wood floors, stamped ceiling, supportive pillars, and original walls gives one the feeling of stepping back in time to a place less hurried, kinder and filled with gracious southern hospitality. The Worthington’s wanted to provide a place for people to meet for special occasions and knew this building would be a lovely place to entertain guests.
In 2012 the building was purchased by a local non-profit organization. The Oakwood Room continues today to provide an elegant place for people to gather and bask in the warmth of family and friends on their special day.
